The maximum time limit for filing a claim under CPA is two years from the date the cause of action occurred. There are no court fees to be paid when filing a complaint with a Consumer Forum/Commission. Furthermore, a complainant/opposite party can present her/his case without the assistance of a lawyer.
According to the Consumer Protection Rules, 1987, a complaint filed with the Consumer Forum / Commission must be adjudicated within 90 days of the date of notice by the opposing party, and within 150 days if it requires commodity analysis or testing.
